‘Creative use of materials, a carefully detailed stair with open risers, strategic placement of windows, open spaces bathed in an abundance of natural light, and a dramatic new building envelope defined by multiple interlocking volumes -– all combine to create the feel of a larger, modern home that sits comfortably among its older neighbors with its own, unique style.’ — CG&S Design Build. Recently we photographed the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Here is an excerpt from the Long Center website discussing the lead design architect, Nelsen Partners: ‘Nelsen Partners is an architecture, planning, and interior design firm headquartered in Austin with a regional office in Scottsdale. In June of 2006, Nelsen acquired TeamHaas Architects, simultaneously assuming the role of the associate architect of the Long Center. Stan Haas, FAIA, who became the Director of Design for Nelsen Partners, leads the firm’s effort on The Long Center. Haas, who is synonymous with this project, first identified the potential reuse of the old Palmer Auditorium more than 13 years ago. In 2000, TeamHaas Architects was awarded the Firm Achievement Award from the Austin Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for their advocacy for The Long Center. Haas and Nelsen Partners continue their commitment to design excellence in transforming the icon of old Palmer into the new Long Center for the Performing Arts.’ Click on the image to view a gallery of this project.
